I also undertook an intensive mediation training workshop offered by the internationally recognized leader in the field of mediation, ADR Chambers.  I have eighty hours of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) training conducted in affiliation with Norte Dame University and the University of Windsor in Toronto. Grief 101 for Mediators:

Evan Ash, Mediator, Kansas Tenth Judicial District - Evan has been a domestic mediator in Kansas’s Tenth Judicial District since 1995, and serves as the supervisor for its clinical mediation programs. His mediating experience began informally as a chaplain, and later with the Wichita Neighborhood Justice Center.He is Past President of the Heartland Mediators Association and a member of the Standards/Ethics Sub-Committee of the Kansas Office of Judicial Administration’s Dispute Resolution Advisory Council. He is an “Advanced Practitioner” of the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR). He is approved by the Kansas Supreme court for core, domestic, civil, parent adolescent, and juvenile dependency mediation and as a mediation trainer and mentor. He has taught mediation courses at Johnson County Community College and Missouri Western State University. His articles have appeared in ACR’s Family Mediation News, on mediate.com, and in various other professional publications.  He holds masters degrees from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary and the University of Nebraska. As an Episcopal Priest, he has served parishes and institutions in Nebraska, Oregon, and Kansas.

He is well known nationally and has experience on the international level. He has mediated disputes in an array of areas including: farmer creditors disputes, family issues, public policy cases, truancy, victim offender cases, business cases, labor relations, and school disputes. Engagement Skills - Strategies That Promote Participant Involvement in Mediation:

Roxanne Emmert-Davis, LMSW - Roxanne has a private practice of mediation and training in Topeka, Kansas.  She has served as a social worker, mediator and educator in the child welfare field for over 20 years.  Roxanne provides training in mediation and child welfare issues, including conflict management, team building, family group decision making, communication and engagement skills.  Roxanne is co-author of Choices: Workshop Leaders Guide, a curriculum for professionals who work with adolescents.  She participated in piloting and development of a statewide initiative for Child in Need of Care Stakeholders groups for Kansas judicial districts and currently serves as a facilitator for that project.  Roxanne is a Kansas approved domestic and parent-adolescent mediator and is approved to provide core and parent-adolescent mediation training.  She is an approved mediator mentor, is a past member of the Kansas Dispute Resolution Advisory Council and current President of Heartland Mediators Association.

Charlotte (Charlie) Nolan, MS, Family Crisis Consultant and Conflict Resolution Specialist, Mediator, Parenting Coordinator with Touchstone - Charlie Nolan received a Master of Science degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Florida State University.  She is a mediator for civil and family matters as well a juvenile and adult victim/offender programsthrough certification programs at Missouri State University-Springfield, Washington University School of Law, University of Maryland-Baltimore, and University of Minnesota.  She is an executive board member of the Association of Missouri Mediators and is also a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.  Charlie works privately as a mediator, parenting coordinator, parent educator, legal educator (for attorneys and judges) and mediation educator and coach with Missouri State University.

Jennifer Baker-Hornick, Research Assistant, Touchstone - Jennifer Baker-Hornick received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from Missouri State University and is currently attending graduate school at Missouri State University for a Master of Science degree in Criminology.  She is a mediator for civil and family matters as well as a parenting coordinator through certification programs at Missouri State University, Washington University, School of Law and Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.  Jenny works as the office manager of Touchstone, LLC, and is the research assistant for the Girl Talk program.

Wait, Bunt or Swing Away - All Potentially Winning Strategies:

Terry Diane Parsons, Olsen & Parsons Law Firm - Terry holds a B.A., M.A. and J.D. from the University of Iowa and is certified by the IAM as a general and family law mediator.  Terry received her first mediation training in 1987 at the Ericson Mediation Center in Divorce Mediation.  She is a member of the Black Hawk County and Iowa State Bar Associations and the Iowa Association of Mediators.  Currently serving on the Iowa State Bar Study Committee reviewing Rule 11 Standards of Practice for Mediators in Family Law Cases; chairing the Black Hawk County Bar Association Study Committee on the use of Mediation in Family Law Cases; and serves as Secretary of the Iowa Association of Mediators.

Susan Martinez, Family Safety Project/Mediation Director, Center for Conflict Resolution - Susan Martinez is an experienced staff mediator at the Center for Conflict Resolution in Scottsbluff, NE.  She has an MSW from the University of Wyoming and has a social work practice in a medical setting for dialysis patients.  She has a special interest in restorative justice and teaches conflict resolution skills in the county jail and juvenile detention center.

Rae Ann Schmitz, J.D., Executive Director, Center for Conflict Resolution - Rae Ann Schmitz is a founder of the Center for Conflict Resolution in Scottsbluff, NE.  She was a Legal Aid lawyer for 27 years serving low-income people in domestic relations and bankruptcy services.  She is now the Executive Director of the Center for Conflict Resolution and is a staff mediator.  She has an interest in bringing "peaceful practices" into the courts, the schools, and the business environment.

Rights of Never-Married & Same-Sex Couples:

Marta J. Papa, J.D. - Marta Papa is a family law attorney and mediator who focuses her practice on traditional divorce litigation and mediation as well as mediation for never-married and same-sex couples.  Marta obtained her post-graduate training from the Menninger Marriage and Family Therapy Program and is a Supreme Court Approved Trainer in divorce mediation. Beth Lewandowski, J.D. - Beth Lewandowski is an attorney/mediator, focusing her practice on family law. Beth is a member of the Missouri Bar Association and the Association of Missouri Mediators, and participates on the ADR and Solo and Small Firm Committees of the Missouri Bar. Hate Hurts - Recognizing Hate and Managing Its Effects When Mediating or Facilitating:

Sarah J. Read, President, The Communications Center, Inc. - Sarah has over 25 years experience with a wide range of conflict resolution processes, including mediation, negotiation, and collaborative processes. She has also worked with dialogue processes such as study circles, listening circles and conversation cafes. She has a BA from Yale (1978), a JD from the University of Wisconsin (1981). She is on the American Arbitration Association's panel of neutrals, a mediator with the REDRESS program, and past chair of the Missouri Bar's ADR committee. Dave Overfelt, Associate, The Communications Center, Inc. - Dave is a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of Missouri and a member of the National Coalition for Dialogue and Deliberation.  His academic work focuses on participatory urban development processes.  As an associate at The Communications Center, Inc. he assists with facilitation, research and program design. Arthur pearlstein, Professor of Law and Director, Werner Institute for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution, Creighton University School of Law,

received his B.A from Haverford College, his J.D. from Harvard Law School cum laude, and his Master’s in Dispute Resolution from the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University. Immediately prior to joining the Creighton faculty, Professor Pearlstein served as the general counsel and director of Alternative Dispute Resolution and International Programs at the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS).

Dialogic Practices: Skills to Help Us Cultivate Dialogue in Mediation

ran kuttner, PhD, Assistant Professor of Conflict Resolution, Werner Institute for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution, Creighton University School of Law,

completed his Ph.D. at the Program on Conflict Management and Negotiation at Bar-Ilan University, Israel. He received his MA in philosophy of education and BA in philosophy, both cum laude, from Tel-Aviv University, Israel. For the past three years, Ran has been a Visiting Researcher and an Associate at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, where, among other research projects, he helped redesign and teach the Harvard mediation course, a joint course for law and MBA students. In his research and teaching, Ran explores relational aspects of conflict engagement and aims to improve both the philosophical understanding and the practice of transformation of adversity into dialogue through mediation, negotiation and facilitation.
