REASONS FOR CHOOSING NMCA/ODR TRAINING
Quality:
Nationally recognized NMCA training programs meet competency
standards and content guidelines consistent with Nebraska legislation and
policy, and are easily adaptable to requirements outside Nebraska.
Opportunities:
ODR’s
collaborative public-private partnership with NMCA encourages the use of
volunteer resources for the delivery of services and each Nebraska ODR approved
mediation center has the option to affiliate with NMCA/ODR trained
mediators. This allows affiliates to contribute their mediation skills to the public good as they gain
experience. Affiliation ensures a continuum of skill-based learning, continuing
education, and opportunities for practice.
Responsiveness:
Trainers use
a variety of active learning strategies to provide participants with a balance
of theory, dialogue, and practice.
Choices:
Beyond the
basic and family mediation trainings described in this brochure,
specialized and advanced trainings
are offered for experienced mediators. These trainings draw on nationally
recognized trainers and frequently require a minimum prerequisite of Basic
Mediation Training. The Training Institute also designs
customized trainings
for courts, organizations, governing units, businesses, institutions, and
agencies. These customized trainings are tailored to the unique needs of the
participants.
Integration:
Mediators who
train through the Training Institute and affiliate with an ODR approved
mediation center benefit from the integrated dispute resolution system in
Nebraska. The system offers a broad array of opportunities to mediate that
are
supported through supervision, continuing education, and mentoring. Centers
employ competency standards of best practice that foster excellence in the field
of mediation.
International Recognition:
The Basic
Mediation Training Manual is approved and certified by the International
Institute for Negotiation and Conflict Management (IINCM), a consortium of
universities, law schools, and governments in Australia, New Zealand, and
Singapore.
Professional Development:
A certificate
of completion verifying attendance will be presented to each participant who
completes a training course. For continuing education purposes, the Basic
Mediation Training course fits the scope of practice for human resource
professionals and licensed mental health practitioners, including professional
counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists. Professionals
may earn 27.75 continuing education hours by completing the course. Basic and
family mediation training is approved for Continuing Legal Education credit in
Nebraska, Colorado, and Iowa; the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI)
has pre-approved 26 hours of continuing education hours for PHR/SHPR/GPHR
certification. Please contact the Training Institute regarding
specific continuing education credit.
Experience:
NMCA's
trainers are practicing mediators and facilitators. Through years of
experience they have developed engaging and focused formats that enhance
learning and demonstrate the application of mediation principles. Information on NMCA’s trainers can be requested in paper format by contacting
NMCA at info@nemediation.org or
